South Runway Maintenance Schedule

YVR runways require regular, ongoing maintenance. As a result of its frequent use, the South Runway (08R/26L) requires more repairs and closure time.

2025 South Runway Maintenance and Construction Projects

The South Runway (08R/26L) and Crosswind Runway (Runway 13/31) will be closed on selected nights throughout the year for regular routine and preventative maintenance and project work. These scheduled closures ensure that the airport meets Transport Canada standards and maintains safe operations for our passengers and aircraft operators.

Unless otherwise noted, this work is performed between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. local, at which time all landings and take-offs are moved to the North Runway (08L/26R). While some work can be completed in a single night, other work may require multiple nights.

The South Runway routine and preventative maintenance and construction project schedule for 2025 is as follows:

  • January 11, 18, 25 (Saturday nights)
  • February 1, 15, 17, 18, 19, 22
  • March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 (Saturday nights)
  • April 5, 12, 19, 26 (Saturday nights)
  • May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 (Saturday nights)
  • June 7, 14, 21 28 (Saturday nights)
  • July 5, 12, 19, 26 (Saturday nights)
  • August 2, 9, 16, 23,30 (Saturday nights)
  • September 6,13, 20, 27 (Saturday nights)
  • October to December will be determined at a later date.

Please note that dates are subject to change as additional maintenance work may be required.

In addition to the routine and preventative maintenance activities, construction projects are anticipated to require extended closures of the south runway between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., potentially up to six nights a week for various periods between the months of April and October. We are carefully coordinating this work to minimize the overall project duration and effects of the temporary changes on the community as much as possible. However, the exact duration and timing of this work and when the North Runway needs to be used is dependent on several factors, including the type and complexity of work to be completed and weather conditions.

South Runway closure schedules associated with the construction projects will be posted once the work details are finalized. The South Runway maintenance construction schedule will be coordinated with the North Runway Modernization Program to ensure both runways are able to be serviced throughout the summer construction season. To learn more about the south airfield projects, please visit news/yvr.ca/southairfield

We acknowledge that some communities may be affected by changes to runway use during said closures, and this work is necessary to maintain the high standard of safety for the travelling public. For more information, please contact [email protected].
