Runway Operations During COVID-19

As one of four Canadian airports open to international flights during the COVID-19 pandemic, YVR plays a crucial role as critical infrastructure—facilitating the movement of important goods such as medicine, food and medical supplies, assisting in repatriating Canadians and helping foreign nationals return home.
While travel restrictions have reduced daily aircraft movements at YVR, the airport runways are operating within normal parameters and we remain committed to maintaining our airfield to meet standards prescribed by Transport Canada. We will continue with our regular maintenance activities, which may require use of the north runway between the hours of 10pm and 7am depending on the work being undertaken. A community advisory with a maintenance schedule has been posted here on our website. Please note, emergency situations that may arise due to the COVID-19 pandemic may also require use of the north runway at night.
The safety and security of our passengers, employees, partners and all airport visitors is our top priority—at all times—and we are committed to fulfilling our role as a key hub in this ongoing crisis and supporting the upcoming economic and social recovery efforts.
