Central Utilities Building

YVR is the biggest building in British Columbia and has a lot of heating and cooling needs. Our new Central Utilities Building will support the entire terminal complex and help YVR meet its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.

The new Central Utilities Building (CUB) will be located on the site of our former Value Lot and will improve efficiency by centralizing all of the equipment needed to meet the airport’s heating, cooling and electrical demand. To support this, we are building one of the largest GeoExchange systems in Canada. GeoExchange technology uses the earth's renewable energy, just below the surface, to heat or cool a building. Our system will include hundreds of wells to provide sustainable heating and cooling for the terminal.

The CUB is expected to be complete by 2021 with all systems fully operational by 2022.
