Templeton Area Redevelopment Update

Construction Activities: Week of November 23, 2020

Site work on the Templeton Area Redevelopment continues. Work is now underway to create the Templeton Corridor and conduct early works in preparation for development of the future facility. Construction activities for this phase are scheduled to take place through mid-2021. Learn more about what to expect during construction here.

Upcoming this week: We’ve set the date and time for our Burkeville community meeting. It will be held Wednesday, December 2 starting at 6 p.m. on Zoom. Noteworthy milestones from last week: The old sign shop has been removed and crews are doing final removal of old concrete.

Areas of focus this week (all weather dependent) include:

New this week:

  • No new activities planned this week.


  • Electrical work for future pedestrian scale lighting along Terrace Street and Aylmer Road (nearing completion, after which they will move to install lighting conduit for the multi-use path along the edge of Burkeville)
  • Concrete removal at the former sign shop on Aylmer Road (potentially noisy work for the next three days)
  • Continuing to monitor the temporary trench to help address flooding in the laneway behind Wellington Crescent as the City of Richmond develops a permanent drainage solution.
  • Soil grading and hauling gravel and sand to and from site

Use of onsite equipment throughout the site will continue most days including excavators, backhoe loaders, haul trucks, concrete trucks, compacting equipment, a forklift and a mobile crane. Broadband travel alarms are in use on regularly stationed equipment to reduce noise in the area. Traditional tonal alarms may still be heard on equipment and vehicles that travel to and from the site, or equipment that will be onsite for shorter durations. Our contractor also continues to suppress dust regularly with water trucks. 


Construction takes place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Equipment and machinery are turned on after 7:30 a.m. An update will be provided if work is required outside of this timeframe.

Please note plans, activities and onsite equipment are subject to change based on evolving project needs and weather. Given the increased frequency of rain, workers may need to come to the site to monitor erosion and ensure the proper flood protections are performing adequately outside of the normal hours of operation.
