Templeton Area Redevelopment Update

Construction Activities: week of July 20, 2020

Site work on the Templeton Area Redevelopment continues. Work is now underway to create the Templeton Corridor and conduct early works in preparation for development of the future facility. We are currently working with the contractor to revise the overall project timeline as there are inevitable deferments based on the two-month pause in work and resulting need to adjust plans based on required worked and seasonality. Construction activities for this phase are scheduled to take place through mid-2021.

As work progresses, we remain committed to keeping you updated on all scheduled construction and onsite activities. We continue to receive and respond to feedback, which includes requests to share more information and provide frequent updates.

Moving forward, we will provide regular snapshots or look-aheads to this subscriber list outlining current and completed work. We have also updated our website to include more information on what to expect during construction here.

Please encourage your neighbours to subscribe to these updates if they haven’t already by emailing [email protected].

Last week, work was focused on excavating for utilities trenches, which included digging up existing organic topsoil material. This week, activity will continue to progress utilities work and the preload process for the Terrace extension.

**New this week**

Based on feedback we received from the community, effective July 20, crews will be onsite at 7 a.m. with equipment turning no earlier than 7:30 a.m.

Work this week includes:

  • Excavating for utility trenches
  • Underground utility removal
  • Underground utility installation
  • Hauling gravel and sand to and from the site - all gravel and sand hauled to the site meets environmental regulations
  • Moving of existing onsite organic material (topsoil that has been excavated to be reused as filler) as needed around the site
  • Preparing lockblocks along the Terrace Street extension alignment in preparation for preload.

Regular onsite equipment includes:

  • Excavators
  • Backhoe loaders
  • Haul trucks
  • Concrete trucks
  • Compacting equipment
  • Forklift

The contractor has water trucks attending the site regularly to suppress onsite dust and has added screening to the Burkeville/YVR perimeter fence line as an additional mitigation. The project team is also exploring other potential mitigations to address other concerns we have received from the community regarding noise and vibrations

Construction takes place within City of Richmond by-laws, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. An update will be provided if work is required outside of this timeframe.

Please note: plans, activities and onsite equipment are subject to change based on evolving project needs and weather.
