Templeton Area Redevelopment Update

Construction Activities: Week of December 14, 2020

Site work on the Templeton Area Redevelopment continues, with ongoing construction of the Templeton Corridor. Construction activities for this phase are scheduled to take place through mid-2021. Learn more about what to expect during construction here. This week's update follows below.

GENERAL INFORMATION (new updates this week)

Our December 2 community presentation and meeting summary are available on the project website. The summary is also being sent to email subscribers. The full engagement report will follow shortly. New in construction this week is to extend the noise blankets further south along the site. For other construction details, please see below.

WEEK OF DECEMBER 14: WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT 

Areas of focus this week (all weather dependent) include:

New this week:

  • Install additional noise blankets.
  • Crews may begin removing preload material from the future Terrace Street extension.

Continuing:

  • Electrical work for future pedestrian scale lighting for the multi-use path along the edge of Burkeville continues. Residents can expect intermittent noise and vibration as crews excavate for the lamp bases, place electrical conduit, and re-pack the soil. Small equipment is being used, to minimize disruption. Work is about 55% complete.
  • Soil grading throughout the site.
  • Monitoring the temporary trench to help address flooding in the laneway behind Wellington Crescent as the City of Richmond develops a permanent drainage solution.

Onsite equipment includes excavators, backhoe loaders, haul trucks, concrete trucks, compacting equipment, a forklift and a mobile crane. Broadband travel alarms are in use on regularly stationed equipment to reduce noise in the area. Traditional tonal alarms may still be heard on equipment and vehicles that travel to and from the site, or equipment that will be onsite for shorter durations.

HOURS OF OPERATION & SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES

Construction takes place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Equipment and machinery are turned on after 7:30 a.m. An update will be provided if work is required outside of this timeframe.

Please note plans, activities and onsite equipment are subject to change based on evolving project needs and weather. Given the increased frequency of rain, workers may need to come to the site to monitor erosion and ensure the proper flood protections are performing adequately outside of the normal hours of operation.
