Templeton Area Redevelopment Update

Construction Activities: week of August 31, 2020

Site work on the Templeton Area Redevelopment continues. Work is now underway to create the Templeton Corridor and conduct early works in preparation for development of the future facility. Construction activities for this phase are scheduled to take place through mid-2021. Learn more about what to expect during construction here.

As work progresses, we remain committed to keeping you updated on all scheduled construction and onsite activities. Please encourage your neighbors to subscribe to these updates if they haven’t already by emailing [email protected].

OVERVIEW

Current project work is mainly comprised of utilities work—excavating utility trenches and removing and replacing utility infrastructure. Activities will also include work related to the preload process for the Terrace Street extension.

Please note there will be no construction activity on Monday, September 7 given the statutory holiday.

Our team regularly visits the site to monitor the project with our contractor, including noise and vibration levels, dust and air quality. We are committed to implementing mitigations that are proven effective and align with project requirements. We will continue to update the community with new information about mitigations as applicable.

WEEK OF AUGUST 31: WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Work this week includes:

  • Removal and relocation of water main along Templeton Street
  • Place lightweight fill (with minor truck traffic, anticipating four trucks per day)
  • Removal of duct bank on Terrace Street
  • Placement of lock blocks in preparation for preload
  • Installation of storm lines
  • Ongoing work associated with hauling gravel and sand to and from site
  • Activity on the South East corner of the project site where crews will be screening a soil pile for future use (work will include a sieve machine)

Regular onsite equipment includes excavators, backhoe loaders, haul trucks, concrete trucks, compacting equipment, forklift and a mobile crane. Broadband Travel Alarms are in use on regularly stationed equipment to reduce noise in the area. Please note however that traditional tonal alarms may still be heard on equipment and vehicles that are transiting to and from the site, or equipment that will be onsite for shorter durations.

Our contractor has water trucks attending the site regularly to suppress dust and has also added screening to the YVR / Burkeville perimeter fence line as an additional mitigation.

HOURS OF OPERATION & SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES

Construction takes place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Equipment and machinery are turned on after 7:30 a.m. An update will be provided if work is required outside of this timeframe.

Please note plans, activities and onsite equipment are subject to change based on evolving project needs and weather.
