Summer 2022 construction projects at YVR, here’s what to expect

Passenger volumes are coming back to YVR this summer with the warmer weather, and so are weather dependent construction projects! We have lots on the go this summer, so we want to make sure you know what to expect when coming to YVR for your flight or to pick up a loved one.

Below are the projects that are set to take place over the summer:

Project: Joint Expansion Replacement

  • Summary: YVR is replacing the joint expansion curbside on level 3 of the International Departures (at the base of the tower). There will be several phases of work over the summer that will impact the Level 3 roadway and sidewalk.
  • Location: International Departures, Level 3
  • Anticipated Timeline: June - September 2022
  • What to Expect:
    • Intermittent noise during demolition at the start of each phase while the project removes the expansion joint in each of the areas.
    • We will experience lane closures on level 3 for the duration of this work June -September.
    • Road access and crosswalk access will be maintained at all times.
    • Drivers and pedestrians are asked to pay special attention to signage and traffic management in the areas. 

Project: Carousel 24 Replacement

  • Summary: YVR is replacing Carousel 24 in international arrivals level 2 which has now reached its end of life. This project will ensure that this critical asset can handle the return of passengers and bags in the post-pandemic era.
  • Location: International Arrivals Hall
  • Anticipated Timeline: June – October 2022
  • What to Expect:  All of the work will take place behind hoarding walls. Increased activity and some construction noise can be expected at certain hours of the day.

Bonus: Level 3 Curbside Signage Replacement

  • Summary: Finally, Starting June 20, 2022, departure level curb signs are changing. This will include changes to check-in areas. Passengers are requested to look up their flight number under the “Departing Flights” flight information to find their airline’s check-in counters and follow the signs in the terminal. 
  • Location: Departures, Level 3
  • Anticipated Timeline: June 2022
  • What to Expect:  Curb sign work from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. with no anticipated impacts to operations.
