Vancouver Airport Authority, the organization that manages Vancouver International Airport / Aéroport international de Vancouver (YVR), has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers in addition to one of BC’s Top Employers. Vancouver Airport Authority has been recognized as Best Diversity Employer for a second year and has made the list as BC’s Top Employer for the 13th consecutive year.
“We are honoured to once again be named as one of the leading employers in the province and one of the Best Diversity Employers in Canada. At Vancouver Airport Authority, we are committed to creating a workplace environment that not only promotes diversity and inclusivity but also offers employees a range of competitive benefits to attract and retain top talent,” said Craig Richmond, President & CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority. “Our unique operating model as a community focused, financially independent organization allows us to place an emphasis on diversity and inclusion in the workplace. With a broad range of perspectives on our team, we’re better able to serve everyone, through universal access terminal design, inclusive hiring practices and a culture that promotes respect and equality.”
Canada’s Best Diversity Employers recognizes employers across the country that deliver exceptional workplace diversity and inclusiveness program. As part of the organization’s commitment to employment equity, Vancouver Airport Authority identifies occupational gaps in the workforce and the Executive Team sets specific hiring targets for the four designated groups—women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities and members of visible minorities, which exceed employment equity targets.
Additionally, Vancouver Airport Authority has a dedicated Employment Equity and Diversity committee, mandated to provide feedback and support on the implementation of Employment Equity programs. Employees also receive extensive training on diversity and respect in the workplace. In 2018, the Employment Equity and Diversity team led a variety of initiatives, including events for Canada’s National AccessAbility week, National Indigenous History Month and Diversity Awareness Month.
BC’s Top Employers recognize the province’s employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work and introduce the most innovative programs to support employees. As part of the selection process, employers were evaluated using the same criteria as the national competition. This included physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement. In particular, Vancouver Airport Authority was recognized for its employee wellness program. The organization promotes health and wellness through a variety of means—from fitness classes to mental health education and leaves of absence. YVR is a strong advocate of supporting professional development and provides employees a wide range of opportunities to participate in various initiatives. As part of the Corporate Learning and Development Program, employees have access to a combination of internal and external courses, aligned to desired learning outcomes.
