WestJet to Launch Service to Huatulco, Mexico at YVR

WestJet announces additional service to destinations in Hawaii, Mexico and Canada

Today, WestJet announced the introduction of a seasonal weekly service between Vancouver International Airport / Aéroport international de Vancouver (YVR) and Bahías de Huatulco International Airport (HUX). This route will launch on October 29, 2017 as part of the airlines seasonal schedule which will also include increased service to Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Fort St. John, Cabo San Lucas, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta from YVR.

“This is fantastic news from our long-time partner WestJet. The addition of Huatulco as well as increasing their other pre-existing services means that WestJet now offers our passengers more services to Hawaii and Mexico than any other carrier at YVR!” said Craig Richmond, President and CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority. “We are pleased that we are able to offer further options for passengers looking to escape the winter to go to sun destinations or go home to visit loved ones in Canada over the holidays.”

The YVR-HUX route will be operated on a 737-800 aircraft with seat capacity for 168 passengers, and will run from October 29, 2017 to April 22, 2018.  This aircraft also offers a Plus cabin with premium seats for 12. Onboard, guests can enjoy WestJet Connect, the airline’s new inflight entertainment and wireless connectivity system.

“WestJet will increase service from Vancouver by 43 weekly flights this winter,” said Brian Znotins, WestJet Vice-President, Network Planning, Alliances and Corporate Development. “In addition to new service to Huatulco, we will operate more flights between Vancouver and Calgary than any other carrier and increase connections available via Vancouver by 34 per cent, thereby supporting the growth of Vancouver International Airport / Aéroport international de Vancouver and the economy of the Lower Mainland and British Columbia. WestJet’s winter 2017-18 Vancouver to Calgary flight schedule will also offer greater consistency with nearly all flights departing at the top of the hour (eastbound) or at the bottom of the hour (westbound), providing schedule consistency and flexibility to WestJet guests.”

WestJet is increasing service on the following routes:

  • Vancouver-Fort McMurray, from five to six times weekly
  • Vancouver-Edmonton, from 60 to 63 times weekly (nine times each business day)
  • Vancouver-Calgary, from 100 to 105 times weekly (15 times each business day)
  • Vancouver-Fort St. John, from seven to 12 times weekly
  • Vancouver-Puerto Vallarta, from seven to eight times weekly
  • Vancouver-Cancun, from six to seven times weekly

The additional flights deliver optimized service for both the business and leisure traveller and give Canadians greater connectivity into and out of the WestJet hub in Vancouver, providing more flight frequency between key routes, better scheduling and greater access from smaller airports into the wider WestJet network.

Vancouver was among WestJet’s five original destinations when it launched service in February 1996. Since then, WestJet has grown to offer 36 non-stop routes with more than 70 daily flights operating out of YVR.
