Today, Air Canada announced the introduction of a new daily service between Vancouver International Airport / Aéroport international de Vancouver (YVR) and Sacramento International Airport (SMF). The year-round service will begin May 17, 2018 and further strengthen Air Canada’s transborder growth.
“2018 is shaping up to be another phenomenal year for our long-standing airline partner, Air Canada,” said Craig Richmond, President and CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority. “As Air Canada continues to expand its U.S. routes out of YVR, Sacramento is a welcome addition and will offer our passengers even more options for travel destinations as well as convenient connections.”
The YVR-SMF route will operate on an Air Canada CRA-705 aircraft with seat capacity for 75 passengers. The flight will depart YVR at 8:55 and arrive at SMF at 11:05. It will then depart SMF at 11:45 and arrive at YVR at 13:57. The new service will create close to 80 new jobs and contribute $5.8 million to B.C.’s GDP.
“We continue to strategically expand our already extensive North American year-round transborder network to offer the only services from Canada to Sacramento,” said Benjamin Smith, President, Passenger Airlines at Air Canada. “As the largest foreign carrier serving the U.S., our new non-stop flights will offer both business and leisure customers travelling between Sacramento and B.C. convenience, and we look forward as well to connecting customers from California’s capital city area onward through our extensive global network at our YVR transpacific hub on North America’s Best Airline as rated by Skytrax.”
In 2017, Air Canada grew their transborder connections from YVR significantly by launching service to Dallas in February, Denver in May, Boston in June and increased service to Los Angeles and San Jose to six and three times daily respectively.
Air Canada’s significant growth at YVR is made possible thanks to YVR’s five-year rates and charges program, ConnectYVR. The program provides a highly competitive rate structure and includes airline rates lower than any other major airport in Canada and competing U.S. airports.
