On October 5, 2023, YVR will be hosting a multi-agency full-scale security emergency exercise simulating a crisis incident at the airport. The event will include more than 150 participants from 15 different agencies across Sea Island and the Lower Mainland, including Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), Royal Canadian Mountain Police (RCMP), and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), to highlight a few. This training provides crucial opportunities for us to practice emergency response plans with our business partners and airport community.
Airport operations will not be affected by this exercise. Signs will be posted around the site location in the terminal to notify and remind travellers, employees and our community of the exercise. All information and updates related to the large-scale emergency simulation will be the prefaced by Exercise Exercise, Exercise to not create confusion with regular operations.
Safety and security is our top priority. Each year, YVR conducts a number of additional simulation exercises to test protocols, procedures, communications and planning for emergency and security related incidents. By simulating emergency situations, we can better prepare for the unlikely event of a real-life emergency at YVR.
Regular operational updates will continue to be available on YVR.ca and on our Twitter/X channels @yvrairport and @yvraeroport.
