Top ten things we're grateful for at YVR

YVR sunset

Thanksgiving is just around the corner so we wanted to share the top ten things that we’re grateful for here at Vancouver International Airport / Aéroport international de Vancouver.

In no particular order:

1. Welcoming back airlines and passengers to YVR.

2021 was a year for new beginnings and travel restarts. We’re grateful to have the opportunity to welcome some new and old friends to YVR this year, such as Pacific Coastal Airlines, British Airways and Air Transat.

2. Our friendship with Musqueam

It is an honour to have the opportunity to work with Musqueam, and we’re excited to continue learning and growing with them through education, employment, revenue sharing and so much more. We’re truly grateful for this partnership.

3. The enthusiastic planespotting community at YVR.

Have you ever seen the awesome plane photos on our Instagram feed? Many are taken by our talented local aviation photographers! With their creativity and talent, we’re proud to share these unique perspectives with you all on our social channels. Thank you #yvrspotters!

4. Playing a huge role in helping our community get vaccinated.

The COVID-19 vaccination roll-out has been one of the most important priorities for our community and country. We were able to recall our own employees as well as Musqueam, airline and other airport partner employees to provide meaningful employment in support of our province’s immunization efforts. Together, we were able to help support our province by vaccinating 150,000+ British Columbians to support a faster recovery for the community and travel industry. Thank you to the staff and our partners for stepping up in support of improved community health and industry resilience.

5. You voted us Best Airport in North America for 12 years in a row.

2021 marked the 12th consecutive year that YVR has received the Skytrax award for the Best Airport in North America! We’re grateful for every passenger that voted for us and we strive to continually operate with you in mind.

6. Celebrating our 90th birthday with our community.

90 never looked so good! We’ve had extreme honor to be able to celebrate this milestone with our local community back in July and we’re thankful for all of the support that we’ve received over the past 90 years. Looking forward to many more milestones to come!

7. YVR’s natural beauty.

YVR is situated on Sea Island and is surrounded by the peaceful Fraser River and the stunning mountain ranges. We’re lucky to call this place our home. We’re truly grateful for the beauty that surrounds us. And why we’re also proud to have launched our Roadmap to Net Zero 2030 this past week.

8. Celebrating inaugural flights with our key airline partners.

Over the past year, we’ve made a few new friends and got reacquainted with some old ones. Airlines such as Turkish Airlines, Air Canada, and Iskwew Air have started new services between Vancouver and other destinations like Istanbul, Orange County, and Qualicum. We’re thankful for these opportunities, especially as we start to come out of a pandemic and we can’t wait welcome more airlines in the future.

9. Welcoming new and returning vendors into our terminal.

We’re excited to welcome new and returning vendors back into the airport! With the travel season coming upon us, we are grateful to be able to provide new and refreshing options for our passengers. Whether you’re craving some healthy juice, Mexican food, or just looking for a good book before boarding your flight, just know that there are new options available at YVR and they are looking forward to serving you.

10. Our airport partners and you! (Yes, you!)

From the art to the airlines, food and beverage, retail, or our tourism partners. We’re thankful for every one of them. And of course without you, our community, we wouldn’t be the YVR that we all know and love today.

And that wraps up our top ten things that we’re grateful for! Do you have something that you are grateful for this year?

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
