While the Vancouver Airport Authority / L'Administration de l’aéroport de Vancouver has recently announced its ambitious Net Zero by 2030 climate goal, many of YVR’s business partners are also demonstrating their commitment to addressing climate change.
We’re happy to celebrate that nine additional businesses operating on Sea Island have become Climate Smart certified since our last update, – many with funding support from Vancouver Airport Authority / L'Administration de l’aéroport de Vancouver. This has been no small feat given the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on many airport-affiliated businesses.
Congratulations to companies who certified for the first time - Airport Terminal Services, Bollore Logistics, Ellis Don, Helijet International, and Strategic Aviation Holdings - and kudos to the companies who have recertified - Aero MAG, Air North, World Duty Free Group, and Vanderlande!
Through the Climate Smart program, these businesses have calculated their carbon footprint and identified actions to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. For example, Aero MAG has reduced their emissions by 29% at YVR through an anti-idling policy, vehicle upgrades, and making use of LED lighting.
Since 2015, 62 Sea Island businesses that have participated the Climate Smart program at YVR and many these businesses have signed on YVR Green Partners to focus on energy, waste, and water reduction goals.
