Today, Vancouver International Airport / Aéroport international de Vancouver (YVR) celebrated Iskwew Air’s first scheduled commercial flight between YVR and Qualicum Beach Airport on Vancouver Island. Since March 2019, Iskwew Air has operated 24-hour charter services out of YVR’s South Terminal.
This new route will support the community of Qualicum Beach and surrounding areas which haven’t had scheduled air access to YVR, and the Lower Mainland, since April 2020.
“We are excited to work together, as Iskwew Air expands their reach on Vancouver Island. The community of Qualicum Beach clearly expressed their support for re-establishing this direct service, and we are proud to partner with Teara Fraser as she re-connects our communities,“ said Russell Atkinson, Director, Air Service Development, Vancouver Airport Authority. “We look forward to the continued success of Iskwew Air and seeing their growth as they connect the people of B.C.”
The new service aboard a Piper Navajo aircraft named Sweetgrass Warrior will be scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from YVR’s South Terminal.
“We are happy to celebrate this milestone at YVR and are honoured to have received such a beautiful welcome from Musqueam,” said Teara Fraser, LEO and Founder Iskwew Air. “We have been working towards this for a long time, and we are excited for the opportunity to re-connect Qualicum Beach to Vancouver.”
YVR is committed to diversity and inclusion and supporting women in leadership. Iskwew Air is the first airline founded and owned by an Indigenous Woman in the country. We are proud to partner with an organization whose leadership embodies inclusivity and reconciliation.
We marked the occasion with a water salute upon arrival at YVR.
