Boeing 737 MAX Returns to Service

The WestJet Boeing 737 MAX taxis to the gate

Safety is at the core of everything we do at YVR. It is also the top priority for Transport Canada and our airline partners. With the return to service of the Boeing 737 MAX, we have the utmost confidence in the safety of the aircraft. Safety experts with Transport Canada have spent over 15,000 hours independently verifying changes to the aircraft to ensure all safety concerns were addressed.

Today, we were thrilled to welcome WestJet’s Boeing 737 MAX back to YVR. This is in line with the recertification of the aircraft from Transport Canada. The flight was flown by Captain Scott Wilson, WestJet, Vice-President Operations, Captain David Colquhoun, WestJet Master Executive Council Chair, Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) and Chris Rauenbusch, President CUPE, Local 4070, WestJet Inflight.

The Boeing 737 MAX is the aircraft of the future. It reduces fuel use and CO2 emissions by 20 per cent over the first Next-Generation 737s. Air Canada has also recently announced they will return their MAX aircraft to service in February.
