Through the Aviators 2.0 (Part 3)

“Through the Aviators” is a blog series created and written by the 2018 YVR Flight Crew. It will be composed of installments documenting our interactions and adventures at our 2018 Summer Festival Series events. Stay tuned for weekly stories and recaps!

On July 21, 2018, the Flight Crew headed to the unceded territory of the Musqueam to join the community in honouring their elders, people, culture, heritage, and achievements on Aboriginal Day. This was also the one year anniversary of The Musqueam Indian Band - YVR Airport Sustainability & Friendship Agreement, which was also recognized. From good music to fresh seafood, Aboriginal Day was a lively event where people from all around the community could come together and experience Musqueam culture! The theme for this year’s event, “Remember your teachings,” was reflected through the Killer Whale and Songbird Dance and Chief Wayne Sparrow speaking about the story of the Musqueam people. The Flight Crew held their social media contest where participants could enter to win 2 FREE Flights to Shenzhen, Tianjin, or Mexico City. As the clouds opened up and the sun came out, the crew enjoyed a fun filled Aboriginal Day engaging with the community that YVR values so close!

Come find us at our next festival, Golden Spike Days on June 29th, June 30th and July 2nd. For more information on where we are going to be this summer, please refer to our Summer Festival Calendar below!
