Airport Workers Day

Moving What Matters

YVR is joining airports across the country to celebrate the first-ever Airport Workers Day.

Airport Workers Day on June 26 this year is a national initiative led by the Canadian Airports Council (CAC) recognizing the people who are “moving what matters” and celebrating the vital contribution airport workers make to our communities and our economies. From technicians to baggage handlers to security personnel and from aircraft marshals to air traffic controllers to facilities staff – the hundreds of professions and career paths across our airports are as diverse as the people who fill these roles.

Thank you for helping keep Canadians and cargo connected to the places, people and industries that contribute to our success across regions, businesses and communities!

Harmony – by Thomas Cannell

Moving What Matters Harmony Thomas Cannell

The theme for this inaugural Airport Workers Day is "Moving What Matters." YVR selected an artistic interpretation of this theme created by Thomas Cannell.

This design features four people growing and creating captivating harmony together. It is a testament to the strength and joy that come from unity, celebrating the power of teamwork. The artwork illustrates how people are not just stronger but also happier when they come together. The sense of visual movement in the design personifies the dynamic nature of Vancouver International Airport / Aéroport international de Vancouver, demonstrating how, together, we are moving what matters every day, and serving the community and the economy that supports it.

Thomas Cannell is a recipient of the British Columbia Creative Achievement Award (2014) and was a finalist for the City of Richmond Cultural Leadership Award (2019). In 2022, Thomas received the City of Richmond Artistic Innovation Award. He draws inspiration from the natural environments he has experienced and the traditional Musqueam values he inherited from his ancestors and teachers.
