Holiday Hamper Drive
The holidays are a time for family and friends to come together, though not everyone in our community has the means for a special holiday meal. As a community-focused company, YVR is hosting the ninth annual Holiday Hamper Drive in partnership with Quest Food Exchange (Quest). Every year, the airport community rallies together and donates full holiday meals for families in need. Since the Hamper Drive started in 2011, over 4,000 meals have been donated to local families. Last year YVR hit a record with 1,288 hampers.
In addition to the hamper drive, Quest also has year-round programming which is part of their mandate to reduce hunger with dignity, build community, and foster sustainability. Quest partners with local wholesalers, supermarkets, and farmers who donate their surplus food which Quest then sorts and distributes to those in need across the Lower Mainland. Quest’s five not-for-profit grocery markets has had over 1.7 million visits as of 2018 and their impact on the community continues to grow every year.
The holiday season is all about giving and you can be a part of it too. Fill up a hamper with all the ingredients for a holiday meal and bring it to The Spirit of Haida Gwaii: The Jade Canoe at YVR on Thursday, December 5th between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. Stick around and enjoy some music and fun as YVR looks to collect over 1,000 hampers again. Each hamper should be filled with the ingredients below:
- 2 Cans of Soup
- 2 Cans of Vegetables
- 1 Can of Cranberry Sauce
- 1 Box of Crackers
- 1 Box of Chocolates
- 1 Box of Cookies
- 2 Cans of Fruit
- 2 Packets of Gravy
- 2 Boxes of Instant Mashed Potatoes
- 2 Boxes of Stuffing
Each hamper donated will be completed with a turkey donated by Vancouver Airport Authority. Please contact [email protected] if you need hamper bags.
