UPDATE: November 23, at 9:00 p.m.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has re-entered negotiation with Swissport Canada. YVR remains hopeful that the matter will be resolved quickly with an agreement that is favourable for both parties. Should negotiations break off, the Union will provide another 72-hour notice period prior to taking any job action. There is currently no impact to operations at YVR.
Swissport is hired directly by a number of airlines to provide ground handling services such as loading luggage and cleaning the aircraft. In addition, Swissport is hired directly by Vancouver Airport Authority to support the overall staffing of the baggage system. Contingency plans are in place for YVR’s baggage system. The airlines are coordinating directly with Swissport for contingency plans on servicing their aircraft. Swissport does not provide baggage handling for the following airlines at YVR:
- Air Canada

- Air North
- American Airlines
