Runway Projects
Runway End Safety Areas
Safety is at the core of everything we do at YVR which is why we are proactively investing $150 million to build Runway End Safety Areas (RESAs) on all runways at YVR over the next three years.
RESAs are specialized areas at the end of a runway that protect passengers and reduce the severity of damage to an aircraft in the unlikely event of an overrun or undershoot.
YVR is following international standards. We are building 300-metre RESAs on our parallel runways—double the proposed Canadian safety standards.
