Fair Wage Policy

YVR is Canada’s second busiest airport.  In 2018, we met and surpassed our goal of serving 25 million passengers, a full two years ahead of schedule.  And our growth is continuing, with an expected 29 million passengers by 2020 and 32 million by 2022.

To help meet ongoing demands, we are advancing expansion projects to enhance the airport experience and modernize our facilities.   As YVR continues to grow, more workers will be needed.

Understanding many of our partners face barriers when hiring workers—including the rising cost of living, current labour market conditions and wages and compensation rates—we have developed a Fair Wage Policy to help our business partners attract and retain talented individuals.

The Fair Wage Policy outlines an annual process to set a fair wage standard for direct service contractors and explains how wage rates are considered in the evaluation of submissions for retail and food and beverage opportunities in the airport terminal.

We recognize that any fair wage rate will require regular evaluation going forward; and, as such, we will review the policy on an annual basis to ensure it has the desired impact.  We will also aim to review the wage and employer-paid benefit information from YVR’s direct service contractors and concessionaires on an annual basis to ensure that airport wage rates are fair, and both attract and retain the talent required to operate our top tier airport.
