Vancouver Airport Authority Named One of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers and One of BC’s Top Employers

Awards recognize the organization’s commitment to diversity and inclusion

Vancouver Airport Authority has been named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers and one of BC’s Top Employers. The Airport Authority is a community-based, not-for-profit organization that manages Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Organized annually by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, this is the first time YVR has been named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers and the twelfth consecutive year as one of BC’s Top Employers. The awards recognize YVR’s workplace diversity and inclusion programs, and ongoing commitment to its employees.

“We are honoured to be recognized not only as a top employer in the province but as one of the best diversity employers in Canada,” said Craig Richmond, President & CEO. “It’s an exciting time to be part of Team YVR. We take great pride in offering our employees a workplace that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve as well as a range of competitive benefits to attract and attain top talent.”

Canada’s Best Diversity Employers award celebrates employers that have strong workplace diversity and inclusiveness programs. The focus is on initiatives in a variety of areas, including programs for employees from five groups: women; members of visible minorities; persons with disabilities; Aboriginal peoples; and the LGBTQ community. YVR was recognized, in particular, for piloting a project to attract persons with disabilities to participate in co-op student placements. Other workplace diversity initiatives include training on topics ranging from disability awareness to unconscious bias and mental health awareness.

For BC’s Top Employers award, employers across the province are evaluated on eight criteria: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement. YVR was selected based on its various programs and initiatives to support personal and professional growth. As part of the organization’s wellness program, employees are encouraged to participate in weekly activities such as volleyball, archery tag and kickball. The organization also supports ongoing employee development through in-house and online training programs, career planning services and tuition subsidies.
