Advisory: Fraudulent YVR Cheques

February 04, 2013

Vancouver Airport Authority is notifying its customers and the community that counterfeit YVR cheques are being used as part of an international fraud scheme. The Airport Authority is coordinating with the RCMP and Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre who are currently investigating this issue. We want to inform the community of the counterfeit cheque fraud to help prevent any further victims.

The fraud scheme sends individuals a letter in the mail with a counterfeit cheque attached advising them that they qualify for a job as a secret/mystery shopper. Individuals are asked to cash the cheque and then send a wired cash transfer to a specified account.

If you think you, or someone you know, has cashed a counterfeit YVR cheque, please contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. If you have received a letter in the mail advising that you have successfully qualified for a job as a secret shopper with a YVR cheque enclosed, please contact your local RCMP.
