We are committed to investing in our community through donations, sponsorships and in-kind contributions that lead to long-term growth and success.
We will consider applications within three focus areas:
First Nations: we embrace Vancouver International Airport's historical ties to the traditional culture of British Columbia. Initiatives in support of First Nations art, culture and heritage are considered within this focus area.
Environment and Accessibility: we give priority to programs focussing on environmental and sustainable initiatives and supporting advancements in accessibility and barrier free initiatives.
Greater YVR Community: we encourage and support the surrounding community by creating opportunities for engagement and volunteerism for employees at YVR.
Some examples of community investment are:
YVR'S airport community on Sea Island comes together each year to raise funds at an annual golf tournament in support of children’s charities. Supported by many businesses operating at YVR and Vancouver Airport Authority as the title sponsor, this popular event has raised more than $3-million since its inception to help local charities.
YVR connects people and communities through its airport facilities; we also connect cultures. We value our cultural heritage in British Columbia and share this with the world every day by housing the one of the largest private collections of Northwest Coast native art at YVR. To support emerging talent, Vancouver Airport Authority funds an aboriginal youth scholarship and mentor program through the YVR Art Foundation.
Our employees commit thousands of dollars each year to the annual United Way campaign which is matched by the Airport Authority to support social services in the Lower Mainland.
Our partnership with Quest Food Exchange addresses their goal to reduce hunger in the community and our goal to reduce waste at YVR. As Quest's official transportation sponsor, the Airport Authority assists with the collection and distribution of surplus foods and goods. Airport businesses make regular donations to Quest of overstocked, mislabelled or near-expiry products that would otherwise go to waste. These donations enable Quest to divert consumable product from the landfill to those who need it. This partnership engages our employees, our business partners and our local community, while furthering our goals for a sustainable airport.
YVR is a world leader in providing barrier-free airport facilities. Raising awareness of accessibility issues is a role YVR is proud to participate in. The Airport Authority takes part in the annual VASS Corporate Challenge event at Vancouver's Grouse Mountain promote adaptive snow sports programs and opportunities for people living with a disability.
