Concession Information

Vancouver Airport Authority has managed and developed Vancouver International Airport (YVR) since 1992 under the provisions of a long-term lease with the Government of Canada. The Airport Authority is a community-based, not-for-profit organization that has no shareholders and reinvests all earnings into airport development and service improvements.

At YVR, we're reinventing the concept of an airport as a place to transit through, and creating a place where you'll want to linger.

As one of the largest international passenger gateway on North America's West Coast, and the major North American city closest to Asia, YVR is growing. In 2011, we handled 17 million passengers.

Vancouver Airport Authority provides passengers with a low-cost, high-service experience. Our commitment to outstanding customer service has been recognized with numerous aviation and retail industry awards, and YVR is consistently rated among the top airports worldwide for overall passenger satisfaction.

From our friendly Green Coat volunteers and Guest Service Coordinators to our multilingual signage, passengers can enjoy an array of amenities for a pleasant, hassle free experience at YVR.

YVR showcases British Columbia's rugged beauty and its rich cultural heritage, through its architecturally appealing design and extensive collection of Northwest Coast Native art. Visitors can admire masterpieces, such as Bill Reid's The Spirit of Haida Gwaii. The Jade Canoe, along with statues, totem poles, carvings and a 114,000-litre aquarium housing approximately 850 marine creatures.

A world leader in introducing innovative technology and processes, the Airport Authority has streamlined passenger travel through initiatives such as off-site hotel check-in and automated border control programs, as well as common-use self-service kiosks, allowing passengers to access multiple airlines from one machine, making checking in faster and more convenient.

With more than 160 shops, services and restaurants, YVR offers a dazzling array of amenities. Passengers can check e-mail at one of YVR's Internet Kiosks, and then book a tour to one of Vancouver's many attractions at Tourism British Columbia's onsite Visitor Information Centre. If YVR was included in a list of Greater Vancouver shopping centres, it would rank 10th overall for number of stores.

Boasting a number of airport "firsts", YVR is home to the world's first airport with four spas, North America's first Plaza Premium pay-per-use luxury lounges, airport 7-Eleven, health care services including a full-service dentist, pharmacy and medical clinic.

YVR is also home to the world's only airport hotel on Condé Nast magazine's "Top 100 Gold List". The Fairmont Vancouver Airport is a Four Diamond, AAA, fully soundproofed oasis located just a short stroll from the U.S. Departures gates.

To ensure YVR remains a premier global gateway, the Airport Authority is undertaking a 10-year strategy and $1.8 billion capital plan. YVR will decrease connection times between international and domestic flights, enhance baggage systems and invest in terminal upgrades to attract the growing international traffic.
