YVR Adds Direct Service to Kunming

YVR and China are even more connected after China Eastern began direct service to Kunming Changshui International Airport (KMG) via Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) from YVR on Friday.

Vancouver is the first North American destination from Kunming, Yunnan—one of China’s premier tourism regions—and a key gateway destination. This new three-time weekly direct service will open up exciting new tourism and business opportunities for Canadians and further establishes Vancouver as a gateway hub between Asia and the Americas.

Known as the City of Eternal Spring due to its mild climate, Kunming has a population of 7.2 million and is a renowned tourism destination, as well as a significant connecting point to major South East Asia locations.

In addition to increased passenger flow and economic opportunities between the two cities, foreign passport holders connecting to a third country via Kunming can enjoy the 72-hour visa free transit in Kunming before departure. And passengers originating from YVR or KMG can have their bags checked through to either end.

The new direct service to YVR compliments the recent new partnership with Shanghai Airport Authority (SAA). This was brought to fruition with the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation on June 23, designed to strengthen the relationship between the two organizations and jointly develop air services, cultural exchanges and business opportunities.

With 70 flights per week to China during the summer months already, adding Kunming just means more options for travellers flying from YVR to Shanghai and beyond.
