Vancouver Airport Authority Named Canada's Safest Transportation Employer

Dan Strand accepts health and safety awardThe Canadian Occupational Safety Magazine recently named Vancouver Airport Authority the safest employer in the transportation category among companies from across Canada. After finishing second last year, YVR earned top spot this year, with our partner Air Canada earning a silver in the same category. Dan Strand, the Airport Authority's Manager of Health and Safety, accepted the honour at an awards gala  in Toronto on October 30.

Launched in 2010, this award program honours Canadian companies committed to preventing injuries and fostering a workplace culture of health and safety. Winners are determined by assessing an organization’s safety record, work culture and employee surveys.  The competition was expanded to 11 categories for 2013, and 24 employers earned accolades for health and safety measures, including on-the-job training and injury prevention policies.

Judges were particularly impressed with the Airport Authority's safety training program for new employees, our program for reporting and monitoring safety incidents and our President's Award for Safety Excellence, awarded annually to departments that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to health, safety and wellness goals in the workplace.

Workplace safety is a core value of the Airport Authority’s work culture, and one that is shared by the many airport business partners operating at YVR. Thank you to Canada's Safest Employers for another great awards event in 2013 and for recognizing and promoting workplace safety.
