Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports' annual Challenge Cup brings people together for a fun-filled day of activities and also raises funds for all the work they do to make the mountain accessible for everybody.
This year, YVR co-sponsored the event held at Grouse Mountain, which saw corporate squads teamed with Paralympians in a downhill race followed by some sledge hockey and a banquet lunch.
Our own Beth Henschel (far right) was a part of YVR's Team Turbulence, which finished the day with a silver medal and a whole bunch of memories.
"A great day was had by all participating in the VASS Cup - a day to appreciate the successes, and incredible spirit that VASS program harbours among skiers and snowboarders with disabilities.
Each team was matched with an athlete who participates in the association - and team YVR was lucky enough to be matched with a Paralympic medallist - which added some excitement to the day for us! Together, the team participated with others in a ski race, followed by a good game of sledge hockey.
But the best part of the day was experiencing the positive, inspirational sense of community that all the athletes and volunteers of this association embody. I think we each took a little piece of that home with us. Thank you VASS for all you do, and for making us a part of it."
A very cool event that YVR is proud to be a part of. Kudos to Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports and Grouse Mountain for hosting such a successful event that embodies the spirit of sport.
