Germany’s third-largest city will soon be just one non-stop flight away, as Lufthansa recently announced seasonal daily non-stop service from Vancouver to Munich, beginning in May 2013. Currently, Lufthansa operates a daily flight to Frankfurt out of YVR.
Munich is perhaps best known for its legendary Oktoberfest celebrations. O
ktoberfest began in 1810 as a celebration for the marriage of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Sachsen-Hildburghausen. During the 16-day festival, Oktoberfest hosts more than six million revelers, making it the world’s largest fair.
But Munich is much more than just beer - it is the leading city in Germany for arts and culture. Munich’s incredible architecture spans many periods of history and includes sprawling baroque castles as well as museums and churches built by the Bavarian Kings during the 19th century.
Munich is ranked as one of Vancouver’s top ten origin and destination European markets. The Vancouver-Munich route will expand the range of European destinations served out of YVR. We continue to see strong growth in the popularity of Europe hotspots by passengers looking to explore during the busy summer travel season.
