Totems. Weavings. The Haida Gwaii Jade Canoe sculpture. There is no shortage of beautiful art displayed inside YVR’s terminals – in fact, we’ve got one of the largest private collections of Northwest Coast First Nations art in the world. But a new, province-wide contest launched last week turns the focus to beautifying a highly visibile outdoor space: our curbs and parking areas.
The Airport Authority and YVR Art Foundation are asking First Nations artists from across the province to submit original designs that celebrate the theme of flight. The chosen artist’s design will adorn 32” by 80” street banners, to be hung at YVR later this year. The prize? $500 for the winning artist, plus the chance to showcase their best work to the millions who visit our airport every year.
More contest information is available here.
