Plane Spotting & the Mystery of Flight

On any given day, especially the sunny ones, you’ll find enthusiastic and knowledgeable people at YVR with their eyes and cameras focused on the skies.  Whether you’re looking for something to do with the kids or want to frame a photo of a 777, plane spotting at YVR makes for a fun, educational activity.

Former LiveatYVR resident, Jaeger Mah, returned to the airport to meet and learn from current plane spotters, and to try out the hobby for himself.  For tips on what you need to know before you head out with the camera, check out his newest video about plane spotting and the mystery of flight.

So, are you ready to get out there and spot some planes? Here are a few things you’ll want to know first:

  • Do some research before you come and learn some of the best places to spot (Jaeger’s video can help you with this)
  • Take a peek at our Flight Schedules  and see what’s taking off and landing
  • Pick up a free plane spotting guide (a basic 101 course), available at the Customer Care Counters, Level 3, in the Domestic and International Terminals to learn a few basics to help you spot and differentiate between a 737 and a 747.

Have fun and happy spotting!

I saw a huge transport plane land at YVR this afternoon (Sunday, Sep 30, 2012) and was wondering what it was.
