Photo of the Month: Arctic Bay - Canada from the Air

Our Canada from the Air gallery is growing every day and all the amazing pictures make choosing Photo of the Month all the more difficult. But the above photograph, taken by pilot Tim Kalushka, stood out from the rest. This particular photo was snapped at the cliffs Arctic Bay, a community in Nunavut that has a population of less than 1,000 people, but has no shortage of breathtaking scenery.

Arctic Bay is a fascinating community. Birthplace of the Nunavut Premier, Eva Qamaniq Aariak, and inhabited for nearly 5,000 years, the Inuktitut name for Arctic Bay is Ikpiarjuk which means "the pocket" in English.

The Arctic Bay Airport (YAB) recently underwent major upgrades and pilots like Tim have more runway to work with, which means we will hopefully get more spectacular shots like the one above.

Thanks, Tim!

Anybody who wants to submit to Canada from the Air can email entries to or tweet them to @yvrairport and include the hashtag #YVRCanada and where the photo was taken. Our next round of photos is going up on the walls next week, so get your pics in!
