On Approach with YVR President & CEO Craig Richmond

On Approach is a regular Air Mail feature where we interview people who make a difference every day at YVR. We asked Craig five travel- and airport-related questions so that the community can get to know him before he officially arrives as President & CEO on July 2.

What was your first airplane experience?

At age 13, I was in the back seat on my Dad's third flying lesson - magic. And look where it led.

What’s your favourite vacation memory?

The Maldives with my wife, Wendy. Beautiful ocean, millions of fish to watch and truly sublime food.

What’s something unexpected in your carry-on?

I have an app on my iPhone called WhiteNoise. When I have my Bose headphones on, I plug into that and dial up thunderstorms. It really works to cut cabin noise and allow a deep sleep.

You walk into YVR. What do you notice first?

Right side of my brain: the light and colours. Left side: how busy are we, any queues, is the floor clean?

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Fighter pilot.

/ I was basically worinndeg if you ever thought of changing the page layout of your web site? It is very well written; I enjoy what youve got to state. But maybe you can create a a bit more in the way of written content so people can connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of wording for only having one or two photographs. Maybe you could space it out better?

    Congrats, Craig!

I met you in 1998 when you were chief of the safety dept.

From a recently-retired RCAF helicopter pilot.
