With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it can be easy to forget its true meaning and the spirit of giving back. The YVR community came together yesterday and did just that – by donating 500 food hampers to Quest Food Exchange. (Learn more about Quest here)
In October, the Airport Authority conducted a food drive among employees and collected 320 hampers of food. Green Coat volunteers, tenants and other YVR partners also launched their own food drives for a total of 500 hampers.
At yesterday’s event, the Airport Authority, Green Coat volunteers and employees from HMS Host, Hudson, Fairmont, ICE, Paradies Shops, BG Urban Café, LS Travel Retail, Fortune Way, Absolute Spa and CDS Priority all got together and presented the hampers to Quest. Also on-hand to add to the holiday spirit was a singing Santa who took photos with guests, who enjoyed holiday tunes and hot cocoa.
Along with the hampers collected, $9,000 in airport business community sponsorship funds for the YVR Christmas Tree Decorating Contest will be used to fund a turkey for each of the hampers, and donations received from the public as part of the tree voting process will also be donated to Quest.
While you’re travelling through YVR, don’t forget to head over the U.S. Departures Terminal and vote for your favourite tree and donate to Quest Food Exchange. The trees, decorated by local Elementary schools, will be on display December 2nd, 2011 to January 3rd, 2012.
