Clear Skies Ahead for Fairmont Vancouver Airport

The 4th Annual YVR Clear Skies Awards were handed out recently to the Sea Island businesses that best demonstrated dedication and enthusiasm to improving environmental performance.

The recipient of the 2013 YVR Clear Skies Award is The Fairmont Vancouver Airport. The on-site hotel was recognized for its efforts in establishing a Sustainability Committee, utilizing the Inncomm energy management system, maintaining strong community partnerships with environmental organizations and earning a 74 per cent waste diversion rate.

The submissions are assessed by the Environment team at YVR based on the entrant’s efforts in waste reduction, energy conservation, greenhouse gas and pollutant reduction, management of other risks and impacts and any other area that shows commitment to sustainability.

Honourable mention goes to both Securiguard and Enterprise for impressive submissions and ongoing contributions to environmental best practices and sustainability on Sea Island.

The Airport Authority is working hard to make YVR one of the most sustainable airports in the world, and we need help to achieve this goal. We encourage all Sea Island businesses to submit next year for the 2014 YVR Clear Skies Awards so we can highlight the incredible efforts being made year round by all our Sea Island business partners.

If you have questions about environmental initiatives at YVR, please send an email to our Environment team.
