As a community-based organization, we understand the importance of working with our stakeholders to enhance the airport experience for everyone. We work creatively to provide our airline partners with innovative marketing activities that support their continued success and growth at YVR.
Last year, YVR welcomed a record 22.3 million passengers, 18 new services and 2 new carriers. With a year filled with exciting new routes and services, we are well on our way to achieving our ambitious goal of serving 25 million passengers by 2020. Air Canada had a spectacular year, launching new non-stop services to Chicago, San Jose, San Diego, Brisbane, Delhi, Dublin and Cancun. WestJet was very active last year, launching services to London Gatwick as well as Halifax and San Diego. Xiamen Airlines started its new service between YVR and Xiamen, followed by Capital Airlines’ new service to Hangzhou and Qingdao. Our new rates and charges program, ConnectYVR, spurred this growth with some of the lowest airline fees in North America. This increase is reflected from Air Canada’s expansion of their transpacific hub out of YVR, representing approximately 62 per cent of YVR’s passenger growth. WestJet also witnessed a total growth of 8 per cent over the previous year, accounting for 18 per cent of YVR’s growth.
With an estimated 35 million passengers expected to travel through YVR annually by 2037, YVR will continue its commitment to be a sustainable connecting hub and provide our passengers and airline partners the best connection experience. As we continue to grow with our partners, we will take a TEAM YVR approach to marketing – an aggressive and integrated model that focuses on working closely with our airline partners, tourism organizations, governments and a range of other route-specific partners. We are committed to bringing organizations together in a tangible way to support air service routes and provide ongoing support to ensure TEAM YVR will provide our airline partners a premium global gateway.
