Summer Travel Tips

YVR is about to enter into the busiest three weeks of our record breaking summer. We are expecting to see 85,000 passengers on our busiest day – as a comparison, BC Place’s capacity is 54,500.

In an effort to make the travel experience an efficient and stress-free one, we have put together the following travel tips on how to best prepare and what to expect when traveling through YVR during the busy summer season:
  • Confirm travel details in advance. Days before your trip, confirm reservations with your airline, and determine baggage specifications and what your airline offers in the way of onboard service.
  • Download the YVR Airport app or visit our mobile optimized website, www.yvr.ca, to make your journey even more efficient and easy. You can view your itinerary, find information on car rentals, shuttles and public transport and receive up-to-date notifications and flight status changes among other features. On the app, you can also get details on security-screening wait times.
  • When packing, remember that restrictions continue to apply for liquids, gels and aerosols in carry-on baggage. These details and a complete list of items not permitted in carry-on baggage, including skis and snowboards, is available through Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) at www.catsa.gc.ca.
  • If you are staying in a hotel in Metro Vancouver or riding the Canada Line to the airport, keep your eyes open for check-in kiosks located in lobby of select hotels and at busier Canada Line stations.
  • Travel to YVR on the Canada Line is quick and efficient, delivering you right to the terminal door.
  • If you are driving to the airport, have a parking plan. Save up to 40% by pre-booking your jetSet parking at www.jetsetparking.com
  • Summer 2016 will be YVR’s busiest yet. To help us manage extra passengers and baggage most efficiently, please arrive at the recommended time for your flight. This is typically 90 minutes before a domestic flight and two hours before an international flight.
  • Questions? Keep an eye out for YVR’s friendly team of Green Coat volunteers, stationed throughout the terminal.
  • Made it through security with time to spare? Pick up some last-minute summer travel essentials, or start your holiday early with a snack or meal from one of YVR’s great restaurants—packed to go with YVR’s Carry On Food.
  • If you are traveling on a Friday, make sure to enjoy YVR Take-Off Fridays, running until August 26, 2016.  Enjoy delicious treats and lunch specials from locations throughout the airport as well as free entertainment including live musicians, DJs, caricaturists, face painters and our very own YVR Paper Airplane Folding Zones.
