Summer is the season for cycling on Sea Island and we are proud to participate in a number of initiatives that promote sustainable transportation and encourage everybody to check out the bike paths all around the airport in the upcoming months.
Our cycling efforts start pedalling with Bike to Work Week (BTWW) on May 30, this event promotes cycling, reducing your carbon footprint, and living a healthy, active lifestyle.
To participate, create an account online with HUB Cycling and track your bike routes, kilometers travelled, greenhouse gas emissions saved, and calories burned. If you have an existing account with HUB from a previous BTWW, all you have to do is login and record a trip. BTWW will run from May 30 to June 5. Don’t forget to drop by the Commuter Station at Flight Path Park on Sea Island on June 2 for free mechanic services, snacks and goodies!
Following BTWW, Vancouver Airport Authority is also taking part in the Commuter Challenge from June 5 to 11. Workplaces are encouraged to take sustainable modes of transportation throughout the week to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This includes options such as walking, biking, car-pooling, public transportation, telecommuting and more. Register your workplace and create an account online with Commuter Challenge to track the kilometers travelled, emissions avoided, calories burned and litres of fuel saved during your daily commutes.
These events allow you to register as an individual and/or as a team so have fun with it! Create teams with your friends, family and colleagues, and challenge each other to commute to work sustainably!
