If you are looking for more options to fly to Manila or New York, you got it. YVR recently welcomed Philippine Airline’s (PAL) new service to the Big Apple. PAL’s new route connects Manila, Vancouver and New York – adding four additional flights a week between YVR and JFK, with an added benefit of increasing flights between Manila and Vancouver.
The new service was welcomed by YVR's President and CEO, Craig Richmond at a public celebration at The Spirit of Haida Gwaii: The Jade Canoe and followed it with a gate ceremony for passengers, media and VIPs including the Deputy Consul General of the Philippines in Vancouver, Anthony Mandap, PAL's President & COO, Jaime J. Bautista and PAL Chairman & CEO, Dr. Lucio Tan.
Speaking of celebrations, passengers and guests experienced a taste of the Philippines. We surprised everyone with tinkiling dancers - a traditional Filipino dance that involves two people beating, tapping and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination with dancers. Everyone sat back, enjoyed the show and snacked on some pork empanadas, lumpiang shanghais and barbeque chicken skewers at the gate.
Philippine Airlines will operate an Airbus 340-300 for its new service with a seat capacity of 256 seats – 36 in Business Class and 218 in Economy. Passengers will experience PAL’s signature in-flight service featuring business class seats that convert to full-flat beds, an in-flight on-demand entertainment system and gourmet cuisine designed by top international guest chefs.
Philippine Airlines has also been a proud operator at YVR since 1996.
