Connecting with our Community

As a community-based organization, we know that connecting with our communities – our neighbours, our employees and our business partners – is key to the Airport Authority’s continued success.  To this end we have created and supported a number of initiatives that not only contribute to the community, but offers opportunity for participation and engagement.

Quest Food Exchange

  • 516 kg of pennies raised by more than 50 Sea Island businesses and stakeholders bought 3200 lunches for children in need at the Final Boarding Call for the Penny at YVR program.
  • 165 Christmas food hampers for Quest clients and money was raised to cover an additional 200 hampers.
  • More than $80,000 donated in donated goods and funds by the Airport Authority and its business partners.

Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup

  • 250 volunteers collected 853 kg of garbage at the Airport Authority's kick-off clean-up event at Iona Beach on Sea Island. 

YVR Wheelchair Experience Tours

  • A new partnership with Spinal Cord Injury B.C in 2012.
  • Sponsored the development of a series of nine how-to travel videos, each focusing on a different aspect of the airport experience.

YVR Banner Program

  • The Airport Authority sponsored a contest to select artwork for the hundreds of street banners gracing YVR’s curbs, ramps and parking areas.  
  • 14 artists submitted 18 pieces of art celebrating First Nations art tradition and the theme of flight.

Community Survey

  • As part of our public consultation activities, each year we undertake a community survey, conducted and compiled by an external consultant.
  • Overall impressions of YVR were positive, with approximately 79% of Metro Vancouver residents giving the airport a rating of 4 out of 5 or higher.
