Reducing Potable Water Consumption
YVR is working to reduce potable water consumption from airport sources. We are also in partnership with airlines, tenants and other stakeholders to reduce water use.
YVR is committed to reducing our use of potable water consumption 30 per cent by 2020. Since 2015, we have saved approximately 97,000 m³ of potable water— the spatial equivalent of nearly 100 Boeing 747 jets.
As outlined in our Environmental Management Plan, some of our strategies and initiatives to reduce potable water consumption include:
- Periodically shutting off select irrigation and water feature systems during the summer months
- Conducting water audits to identify water saving opportunities in tenants’ facilities
- Retrofitting bathroom facilities to use less potable water
- Utilizing a rainwater collection system at our Airside Operations Building
