This past Saturday, community members from across Metro Vancouver came out to Sea Island to clean up Iona Beach Regional Park and to kick-off the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup in B.C. More than 250 people made the trip out to YVR's foreshores for the event which included volunteers of all ages and our Team YVR - Shoreline FOD Squad.
Volunteers spanned all across the beach and collected over 800 kg of debris from the shoreline. Among the debris were large items like tires, pieces of carpet and industrial cables to smaller items like cigarette butts, plastic bottles, aluminum cans and more. In addition to all the cleanup activity, a DJ kept the party atmosphere going, sponsor tents provided information and giveaways and volunteers were treated to lunch courtesty of the White Spot.

Last week's event kick-off the many shoreline cleanup's happening throughout B.C. As a provincial sponsor, the Airport Authority reached out to our airport colleagues in Abbostford, Campbell River and Nanaimo who are also orgnizing teams to help in their communities. Thank you to everyone from the airport communities around B.C who are keeping our shorelines clean.
