Ready to muster up some holiday spirit? Vancouver Airport Authority is calling on the YVR community to do just that this month, as we kick off our annual Christmas Food Hamper Drive in support of Quest Food Exchange.
The Christmas Food Hamper Drive asks YVR businesses, aviation partners, employees, volunteers and any interested neighbours and passengers to donate holiday spirit in the form of a turkey dinner to those who would otherwise miss out. This year’s goal is to fill 400 YVR hamper bags with turkey stuffing, canned veggies, soup, crackers, instant mashed potatoes, gravy, cookies and cranberry sauce. The Airport Authority will donate a turkey for every hamper donated.
Starting November 25, register your participation to receive the itemized shopping list, reusable YVR bag and your prize draw entry. Bring your completed hampers and prize draw entry to our holiday-themed event at the Spirit of Haida Gwaii, the Jade Canoe (International Departures, Level 3) on December 5 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Mark this date in your calendar for festive entertainment, fun activities and great prizes to be won.
Quest Food Exchange collects and distributes overstocked, mislabelled or near-expiry products that would otherwise go to waste and diverts that food to people who need it. Operating three low-cost grocery stores in the Lower Mainland, Quest offers food to 400 social service agencies and their clients for a fraction of the retail cost. The goal? To reduce hunger with dignity, build community and foster sustainability.
Since 2011, more than $250,000 in cash and food have been donated to Quest by the Airport Authority and YVR businesses, such as HMS Host, Hudson Group and the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel, including our $150,000 donation to purchase two new refrigerated trucks to facilitate thousands of food pick-ups and drop-offs.
