Fun Fact Friday: 81 Automated External Defribillators at YVR

Safety is priority number one at Vancouver International Airport, which means potentially lifesaving equipment needs to be readily available.

There are 81 Automated External Defribillators (AEDs) strategically located throughout the airport to ensure that they are always close by should they ever be needed.

If somebody opens the door a signal is sent to operations who can alert emergency responders, and if the device is removed from its cradle paramedics are immediately dispatched.

One of the devices was recently used to save a life at YVR by some quick-thinking CBSA officers, who recounted the experience for us last month.

Next time you are at the airport take a quick second to locate the nearest AED and other emergency equipment so you are prepared in case of emergency.
