Congratulations to Cathay Pacific Airways and Air Canada as the airlines celebrate their Skytrax World Airline Awards! Cathay was named “World’s Best Airline” and “Best Airline in Asia” while Air Canada celebrated its fifth consecutive year as the “Best Airline in North America.”

The announcement was made at the historic Wind Tunnels in Farnborough, UK, during the recently World Airport Awards – a global benchmark of airline excellence.

Cathay Pacific and Air Canada have a long history with YVR. Cathay flew its maiden voyage from Hong Kong International Airport on May 1, 1983 and Air Canada’s predecessor, Trans-Canada Airlines, flew its first passenger flight on September 1, 1937.

Known informally in the travel industry as the Passenger Choice Awards, the Skytrax World Airline Awards is the largest, prestigious and respected award in the industry. This year’s awards tallied the results of 18.85 million airline passengers from around the world. Airline passengers from more than 160 countries participated in this year’s survey, which covered 245 airlines worldwide.

Cathay and Air Canada weren’t the only YVR airline partners who received Skytrax Awards:

• All Nippon Airways won “World’s Best Airport Services” and “Best Transpacific Airline”
• Lufthansa won “Best Airline in Western Europe” and “Best Transatlantic Airline”

Virgin America doesn't serve YVR.... Virgin Atlantic does. Unless you're hinting at a possible VX YVR service from... SFO? (Here's hoping...)

    Hi Brian,

No secret messages at all, just giving props to Virgin! Maybe one day we will see Virgin America on the runways of YVR.
