Aircraft of the Month: Air Tractor AT-802F Fire Boss

The Martin Mars proudly fought fires all over the province for more than 50 years, swooping in to help B.C. communities that were threatened by fires. The aircraft was instrumental in saving countless lives, land and property damage in its historic service to the province. But the mammoth airtankers were recently retired in favour of the Air Tractor AT-802F Fire Boss pictured above. The Fire Boss has less capacity than its predecessor but is amphibious and can grab H20 from more bodies of water due to its smaller size. To help fight the many wildfires that burn across beautiful British Columbia every year, the province has contracted the services of four Air Tractor AT-802F "Fire Boss" amphibious airtankers that can drop water, foam or retardant on a fire. The aircraft can skim up to 3,025 litres of water in 15 seconds from over 1,700 water bodies in B.C. and will end up going out on about 600 missions per year. While we will miss the Martin Mars, the Fire Boss is patrolling the skies and working hard alongside our incredible emergency services teams on the ground to and keep British Columbians safe.
