Air Panda - FedEx Flight Arrives with Precious Cargo

Everybody is talking pandas today, as our two new friends have finally landed in Canada.

While the pandas may be calling Toronto home in the near future (and then on to Calgary), they made a short stop at YVR along the way.

In the wee hours of Monday morning, Er Shun and Da Mao, two of about 1,600 giant pandas left in the world, touched down after a long flight from Chengdu in a custom FedEx plane (pictured above and below), adorned with a panda image to indicate its special cargo.

The pandas aren't unlike the millions of passengers a year that arrive in Vancouver from Asia who use YVR as the gateway to destinations across North America. YVR is home to the most Asian carriers in North America, and beginning this summer, more than  40 flights per week will connect our airport to destinations in China. Their stay may have been brief, but YVR is happy to have welcomed these visitors for a short layover. We look forward to seeing them again on their way home in 10 years!

They should have been left in China in their natural habitat! Bringing them here is so wrong! Poor bears:(
