President's Perspective: October 2012

Many factors are at play when a passenger chooses their air travel route.  Ease of transit, value and the airport experience all factor into the decision.

In late September, we were delighted to officially welcome World Duty Free as YVR’s duty free operator.  At the grand opening ceremony, a $35,888 bottle of Generations Glenlivet 70 Year Old whiskey, available exclusively at YVR until November 1, was piped into the store, an impressive symbol of the important partnership between the Airport Authority and World Duty Free. This global organization chose Vancouver as its first North American destination.  In turn, its nine exceptional stores have become a cornerstone of our retail program.

Offering premium spirits and the best in luxury-brand cosmetics means more choice and a better experience for travellers. But it also contributes to our strength as a gateway airport for international passengers visiting British Columbia and beyond. In fact, customers have told us they are choosing to fly through YVR specifically for the high calibre of our shops and services – in the U.S., Domestic and International terminals alike.

It’s hard to believe, but with summer behind us the airport community will soon be gearing up for another busy holiday travel season.
