With more than one million people who headed to downtown Vancouver to watch the Celebration of Light firework displays this year, the YVR Observation Deck were the must have seats. Situated at English Bay with a perfect view of the firework displays, these reserved seating bleacher seats offered an alternative to those who don’t wish to arrive early to get a good spot and then spend the day waiting for the show.
The Celebration of Light 2012 once again wowed the crowds as Vietnam, Brazil and Italy competed for top honours. This year, for the first time, the public participated in the judging via on-line voting. The votes were tallied and Italy was declared the winner. Their dazzling use of colour and technique all set to a top-40 music soundtrack won the hearts and votes of many viewers.
Vancouver Airport Authority also participated in the ShoreFest at Sunset Beach each day, as part of the Community Relations and Community Investment program. Airport Authority employees were on hand to answer questions, encourage people to join the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, and hand out lollipops to the huge crowds that attended the event. The Airport Authority is proud to be a long time sponsor of this iconic event that draws locals and tourists alike.
